Matt Elwell (Meteorologist)
Matt is a Kansas native growing up just a little up the road in Leavenworth, Kansas.
He went to The University of Kansas where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science.
While going to school, Matt worked as a teaching assistant for the introductory meteorology lab. It was there that he realized that he thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of forecasting the weather and teaching people about the meteorology. Broadcasting seemed like a perfect fit.
Matt kicked off his broadcasting career in Billings, Montana in 2002. He worked his way from weekends to the top-rated morning show in the market. It was during that time that he fell in love with fly-fishing and the Stillwater River. In September of 2005, Matt’s fishing time was severely cut down when his wife gave birth to a 1 lb 4.5 oz little girl named Campbell. While Campbell continues to be a happy and healthy little girl, it did prompt Matt to become highly involved with the March of Dimes in order to help fight premature birth.
Matt and his family made a move back to Kansas to work at 6 News in December of 2006, and have since added another daughter, Paige to the family circle.
When he isn’t spending time with his wife and daughters, you can find Matt at the golf course, fishing at some of the local lakes, or just out watching the weather.
